Drama In Calama, Thieves Steal Our Backpack - Calama, Chile

The scenery was all boring, barren desert devoid of colour so we missed nothing by sleeping. The Pullman bus was a nightmare with tiny seats and rubbish strewn around. The toilet was so feral that they had to pull over and hose it out. We were surrounded&nbspby a total of 8 men and thought the&nbspstatistics of getting a snor

Uber Paradox, or, Too Much Time Restrains

This past week, I read two books, which is a miracle. There was a time when I could read a book a day, but that was years ago. Anyway, I highly recommend Joanna Bourne's The Spymaster's Lady and Patricia Brigg's Iron Kissed. The first is a historical spy romance and the second, the third book of an urban fantasy series, which can be read stand-alone. Both have twists and turns that made me go "ooooh" and unable to stop turning the pages. Unless you want to me to write one of my long-ass reviews

Democrat: War Without Fascism... What's the Point?

No, that's not what freshman senator and longtime congressman Robert Menendez D-NJ, 90% intended to say but if he knew anything about either economics, military strategy, or history, he would have realized what his actual point was: With U.S. troops entering their sixth year of combat in Iraq, New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez demanded Saturday that President Bush give an honest assessment of the costs of the conflict. You keep using that word, "honest." I do not think it means what you think

An unholy union for Scotland, a financial hell for everyone else. March 23rd 2008 Miscellany, Roundup edited by snptacticalvoter A slow news week had me sifting through the tumbleweed and potentially?grasping at straws. What with Tartan Hero taking a well-earned break and Kezia Dugdale with too much on her plate to blog properly for now, there was a chance it would be slim pickings in the run up to Easter. Early Handicapping in the Kleeb-Raimondo Primary

As we wait for the Senate race to heat up only 53 days to go!, I've decided to make a go at a rough outline of where things stand. Considering how little information we really have to go by Raimondo's never run for office before, Kleeb's never run in a primary... in fact, few Democratic primaries have been contested for any office in many years, this is almost certainly more fluff than substance and should be taken with at least a few grains of salt. That being said, this is the map I've p

I always like when other scrappers or crafters show how their work evolves "from start to finish" so thought I'd share how this little project came together and walk you through my "process" a bit. Personal Post: Lost Dog - Found Dog

Driving down a busy street on Wednesday, I almost hit a puppy who was stuck mid-lanes, scared and not sure which way to run. In a bad decision, the pup darted to its right, and almost got hit by a big, white delivery truck. Thankfully, the truck screeched to a stop as I had done, and together, we blocked traffic on the road until the dog safety manuevered itself out of the street. Pulling to the side of the road, the pup came right to me: a chocolate lab mix, with pretty green eyes, very friend

CalMac ferries 'could go bust'

from Sunday Herald, 23 March 2008 The public ferry company, Caledonian MacBrayne, could go bust and vital transport links to the islands be lost if the European Commission wins a prolonged legal battle with the Scottish government, officials have warned. Such a stark scenario, revealed in an internal government database obtained last week by the Sunday Herald, would be ???scandalous??? and ???outrageous???, say experts. Some are even daring the commission to go to court to bring the matter to a head.
